Wahiawa is the coldest place on Oahu and the home of cherry blossom trees that thrive and were planted as early as 1973 by Wahiawa Nikkei Civic Association leaders whose interest was to make Wahiawa the “Sakura Town” of Hawaii.
There will be 2 events to commemorate:
SAKURA MATSURI
Entertainment program of Japanese culture in the performing arts. Meet the Cherry Blossom Court, enjoy Japanese music, dance, taiko drums. Win a cherry blossom tree plant of your own. This year, the program is dedicated to the Nakayoshi Kai Japanese Friendship Club of Leilehua High School.

SAKURA SAFARI – HANAMI
A special trolley ride through Wahiawa Town and experience the abundance of sakura trees in this quaint residential and still a bit rural community. Members of the United Japanese Society of Hawaii and Wahiawa Nikkei Civic Association host the Saturday morning cultural affair. A special added attraction will be our homegrown community celebrities narrating the tour about curious and historical places in Wahiawa.

Time: 9:00 AM – and 11:00 AM
2:45 PM – Lunch & Entertainment
Place: meet at Wahiawa Hongwanji, 1067 California Ave, Wahiawa
Cost: $18.00 for trolley ride, $5.00 for “Kitchen Delight” bento (optional)
RESERVATIONS REQUIRED for seating on trolley. Group A departs at 9:00 AM. Group B departs at 11:00 AM. Tours are about 90 minutes long.

SOAR is a FREE program for all Hawaii students in grades 3-12 (both military and non-military students are eligible). Its an innovative program that makes it easy for parents to play an active role in their child's education. SOAR is designed for use at home and is easily accesible. SOAR is an internet-based application. Students take assessments aligned to state standards, and SOAR directs them to individualized tutorials to improve skills were needed. Parents can monitor their children's progress from anywhere, and are provided with resource materials.
